Study tour to JNPT, Uran, Navi Mumbai

As part of practicaloriented teaching pedagogy and contemporary curriculum, students of MBA 1styear were taken for one-day study tour to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT),Navi Mumbai on 16th August 2019.

On behalf ofJawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), Navi Mumbai, Mr. Ravi Gharat- MarketingExecutive welcomed all the Students and Faculty members and briefed about JNPTPort functions. Altogether 170 students, 10 faculty members and 1 staffpersonnel had the first-hand experience of the port functions.

JNPT is a leadingmajor port in India with the handling capacity of 10 million TEUs per annum incontainer freight. Various aspects of logistics that take place on the portwith the help of big transport vessels were discussed with the students. Mr.Ravi Gharat also explained about various tugboats and their functions. He alsohighlighted about the refer plugs and GTIPL i.e. Gateway Terminus India PrivateLtd, NSICT i.e. Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal along with theirdimensions. Customs rules and regulations along with immigration formalitieswere also explained.

The different typesof containers such as Dry storage container, Flat rack container, Open topcontainer, Tunnel container, Refrigerator ISO container, Insulated container,car container and special-purpose container were elucidated.

Later on studentsinteracted with them and got their doubts cleared in Import-Export industrylike container movements, Freight Stations, Warehouses, marketing, customsrules and regulations and other related information. Students were taken onround to have a glimpse of the station spread around 45 acres of land.

Currently threeports JNPT, Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT), GatewayTerminals India (GTI) are operating at JNPT. After having lunch at the guesthouse the students and the faculty members returned to the college withsubstantial knowledge on import-export logistics management and functions ofSeaways in the country.
