CME on "Genomics in Clinical Medicine"

1. ACME on “Genomics in Clinical Medicine” was successfully organized on 30th July2019 in the auditorium and Healthy Volunteer Whole-genome sequencing wasconducted for the first time in Maharashtra. Buoyed by the healthy response(more than 75 volunteers gave blood including the Dean, many heads ofdepartments, etc.) IGIB decided to make Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College thesole center for conducting phase two of this prestigious project.

2. TheCenter of Excellence has also been able to successfully facilitate the additionof a course on Fellowship in Genetic Counseling by getting all genomessequenced for free.

3. Multiplegenetic samples from the Department of Neurology and Pediatrics were alsorecently sent to be sequenced by IGIB for free through us.

4. IGIBalso agreed to give to us for free primes of more than 160 genes standardizedfor India. This can be utilized for setting up an in-house genetic sequencerdoes not present in any other medical college in Maharashtra.

5. Theyalso agreed to train Research Associates in molecular sequencing for free.

6. Timesof India will cover the CME and do a regular series on how genetics improvepatients’ lives giving further prominence to our College’s name.

7. Aproposal to start a skin bank has been prepared.

8. 3publications including one in BMC Genetics have recently been accepted whileanother 4 are undergoing peer review.

9. Theconsultancy has been started, with multiple startups expressing interest inproducing fibroblasts from us for fee.
