No Tobacco Day

Tuesday, June 01, 2021 |Online |NSS Activity

World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 to draw global attention to the tobacco epidemic and the preventable death and disease it causes. The day is further intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to more than 8 million deaths each year worldwide, including 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. This year, the theme for World Anti-Tobacco Day 2020 is “Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use” as Youths are aggressively getting addicted to tobacco these days.

NSS unit of Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Physiotherapy observed No Tobacco day on 1st June 2020, by conducting online awareness lecture on "Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use". The program began with welcome note by Miss Ketki Kulkarni student of final year BPT, she elaborated about the importance of No tobacco Day followed by sharing video clip prepared by the NSS Volunteers on "Hazardous effect of tobacco consumption on human health".
