World TB Day

Tuesday, March 23, 2021 |Dr. D. Y. Patil Homoeopathic Medical College & Research Centre Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri, Pune |Events

Every year we commemorate World TB Day on March 24 to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. Despite significant progress over the last decades, TB continues to be the top infectious killer worldwide, claiming about 1200 lives a day. The emergence of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) poses a major health security threat and could risk gains made in the fight against TB.

The Department of Community Medicine on this occasion had organized a special guest lecture for final year students. Dr Sudhir Dahitankar, Medical Officer for NTEP, in DYPM Hospital was the guest speaker for this event. Dr Y. K. Shah, HOD, Department of Community Medicine introduced the speaker Dr Sudhir Dahitankar to the students. Dr Dahitankar addressed the students on the Epidemiology of Tuberculosis, symptomatology, investigations and treatment plan for TB and elaborated the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, its aim & objectives and Goals towards STOP TB Strategy. Dr Dahithankar also explained the functioning of Cartridge Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (CBNAAT) and Microscopic examination of the sputum samples of TB cases.

Students were motivated to spread awareness about the disease, the importance of Notification and that Homeopathy can be integrated as complementary medicine to conventional anti-tubercular treatment of Tuberculosis.

Samples of DOTS regimen, sterilized sputum collector, Sample ID card, Requisite form for examination of biological specimen for TB, Referral for treatment form and Treatment Card were procured by the department from Mr Hanumant Bidwe, TB Health Visitor.

A vote of thanks was cast by Dr Y. K. Shah.
