Webinar ‘Mock U.S. Presidential Debate Competition’

Dr. D.Y Patil Vidyapeeth’s Global Business School & Research Centre staged for the first time “Mock U.S. Presidential debate”; the most popular debate world-wide, presented and competed by students of BBA and MBA. This event was held through Zoom Webinar and webcasted live through GBSRC Facebook. The function was graced with the presence of His Excellency Shri. Sevala Naik Mude, IFS, Joint secretary, Central and West Africa division, Ministry of external affairs, Government of India. Ms. Anu Alex Asst. Prof. GBSRC hosted the guests, judges and participants. The event started with the welcome address by Dr. Chetan Chaudhari - Director GBSRC followed by Introductory speech given by Hon’ Trustee Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Dr. Smitha Jadhav, which filled the contestants with enthusiasm. The debate was adjudicated by renowned delegates, Dr. Aniket S. Wadajkar, Associate director, Nanoparticle platform development, Nexlmmune, Gaithersburg Maryland, USA. And Prof. Ajay Nagre, Professor at faculty of management MIT world peace university.

There were four teams, each pair enacted as President of America Mr. Donald Trump and former vice president Mr. Joseph Biden representing Republicans and Democrats. The topic for discussion ranged from U.S. foreign policy, economy, racism-violence, corona pandemic, healthcare and education. The entire debate was well moderated by Mr. Vilis Pawar Asst. Prof. GBSRC. The participants were Hemangi Seth, Mithilesh Fredricks, Amandeep Sandhu, Pratik Jha, Osheen, Aishwarya Menon, Vivek Shukla and Tathagat Tirumeni. In addition to the host, judges and participants, the webinar had 240 people viewing live the event.

The teams were well prepared and undoubtedly convinced the judging panel of their beliefs and views. Every student was armed with statistics and data that made their arguments more emphatic with their righteous facial expressions and voice modulation. They exhibited great oratory skill. Judges declared the following teams as winner Amandeep Sandhu and Pratik. Team Mithilesh Fredricks and Osheen stood runner-up. The competition was an enthralling experience for the judges, guests as well as the audience. Guests, judges and Hon’ble Trustee gave their feedback and comments on the remarkable performance showed by the participants.

Prof. Vilis Pawar concluded the session by proposing the vote of thanks. In his speech, he thanked all the guests, judges and participants for arranging such a distinct debate and thanked audience for showing enthusiasm in posting likes and comments on GBSRC facebook page during the entire session.
