2 day workshop on Nitrous oxide-Oxygen Inhalation Sedation(NOIS)

A 2 day workshop onNitrous-oxide Oxygen Inhalation Sedation Dentistry was organised by theDepartment of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry of Dr. D.Y Patil DentalCollege and Hospital, Pimpri. A pioneer in the field Dr. Srinivas Namineni withover 20 years of experience in sedation dentistry took the dais for a lectureplus hands-on workshop which was attended by eminent professors, students andprivate practitioners from across the country. The participants got a firsthand experience of the NOIS machine and the experience of sedation. Thefunction was inaugurated by Honorable Dr. Smita Jadhav, Director and Trustee,Dr. D.Y Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Dr. N.J Pawar, Vice- chancellor, Dr. D.YPatil Vidyapeeth, Dr. Bhonde, Director, Research wing, Dr. D.Y PatilVidyapeeth, Pune, Dr. D. Gopalkrishnan, Dean Dr. D.Y Patil Dental College andHospital, Pune, Dr. Vikas Bendgude, HOD, Department of Pedodontics andPreventive Dentistry, Dr. D.Y Patil Dental College and Hospital, Pimpri.Addressing the delegates, Dr. Mrs. Smita Jadhav said that the vision of theChancellor Dr. P.D Patil is to provide the best infrastructure and faculty forthe students to make a great learning experience. Committed to the vision, theHead of Department and Organising Chairman Dr. Vikas Bendgude, motivated theaudience by saying that the workshop aimed to ease and eliminate dental anxietyand fear among children regarding dental treatment and thus making one'spractice class apart from the conventional practices. Organising Secretary forthe 2 days workshop, Prof. Dr. Vishwas Patil concluded the programme byexpressing gratitude towards the entire team at Dr. D.Y Patil Dental Collegeand declaring the programme a great success.                                            

The first daycomprised of an extensive lecture that started at 9 am in the morning andcontinued till 2 pm followed by an hour of discussions and doubts clearing forthe audience. The lecture was followed by lunch and a small break for more than130 participants which gave the participants time and opportunity to go throughvarious dental stalls that exhibited the latest material and equipment inpediatric dentistry. A session of hands-on course was initiated post lunchwhich covered topics of basic equipment, parts and usage which includedpresentation with a demonstration of the same which continued till 4.30 pm.

The second day wasplanned to focus on the practical aspects of usage of the conscious sedationunit wherein each of the participant had the opportunity to try nitrous oxideeffect on themselves and also sedate fellow colleagues. The hands on course wasattended by more than 55 participants and saw everyone in their mostenthusiastic spirit. The second day programme included a breakfast, lunch andprovision for high tea during the practical course, thus giving theparticipants the much required break.


The two-day workshopthen concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Dr Vishwas Patil anddistribution of certificates and gift bags for all the participants at thehands of Dr Srinivas Namineni and Dr Vikas Bendgude
