International Women’s day celebration

International Women’s day is celebrated on March 8 th every year. The day is devoted to the celebration of Women power and Womanhood worldwide. It has been a tradition at GBSRC to celebrate Women’s Day to commemorate the economic, social, political, and cultural achievements. GBSRC celebrated women’s day on March 6, 2020, by inviting the CEO of Lila Ponawalla Foundation, to address a gathering of the faculty and students. A total of 151 students and15 faculty were an audience to the program. The speaker for the program was Ms Priti Khare, CEO Lila Poonawalla Foundation. Lila Poonawalla Foundation is an Educational Trust in India whose vision is to contribute to the empowerment of Indian women by supporting academically outstanding and financially deserving girls, through a scholarship to pursue higher education. Since its inception in 1996, over 23,126 scholarships have been granted to 8,359 deserving girls. Ms Priti Khare is a visionary and outcome driven leader with around 19 years of leadership experience in Corporate Social Responsibility, Human Resources, Sales and Consulting and have worked with MNCs in India and USA. In a role of the Chief Executive Officer, the has played a role of leading, operations of Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF), a 23 years old seasoned non-profit organization. LPF is working towards its vision of every academically promising and financially deserving girl in India pursue higher education and professional career of her choice, by offering them scholarships, life skills training, employability training, career counseling and mentoring. Ms Priti Khare, spoke of her life journey from a chawl in Mumbai to the CEO of the foundation she is heading with Lila Ponawalla. Ms Priti Khare’s personality has diverse shades like Painting, Cooking, Trekking, Exploring, Marathoning. She touched upon various aspects of life, always having a dream and working towards achieving it through hard work, dedication and perseverance. She spoke of the importance of 3 C’s of life which were courage, confidence and commitment to get a person ahead in life. She also emphasized on Gender equality and the importance of spending productive time with family. The need of the hour is to share responsibility of house hold chores to have a healthy work life balance. She also gave examples of success stories of girls, who were adopted by the Lila poonawalla foundation and have become success stories in today’s date.
