Report on participation in Model G20 Initiative - Stage 1 : National Level Essay Competition
Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Institute, Pune hosted an essay writing competition that was organized under the Model G20 Summit Initiative. Model G-20 is an initiative supported by the Ministry of Education, Gol and organized by the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad in association with Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) to engage students from all 50K+ degree colleges/ universities/ technical Institutions in a dialogue and hence, provide exposure and insights into the nuances of multilateral discourse on global challenges and pressing policy issues of the current times.
The Model G-20 initiative will be implemented in 3 stages as follows
Stage 1: Essay writing competition at the college level,
Stage 2: Debate competition at zonal level and
Stage 3: Elocution competition at the national level
The first level -Essay writing competition was held online on the 14th April 2023.
The following topics were given for essay writing:
(i) The progress on sustainable development goals
(ii) Climate change & its impact
(iii) Reforms for multilateral institutions
(iv) Circular economy and lifestyle for the environment
(v) Digitalization of agriculture/Trade/Skilling
(vi) Women at the core of the development agenda/Women-led development
(vii) LIFE – Lifestyle for environment
The competition was a great opportunity for students to develop their communication and critical thinking skills. Writing on topics that are relevant to the world today, participants were able to broaden their understanding of global issues and develop their analytical skills.
Following three students participated in this activity from Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Pune.
- Palak Bafna, on " The Progress on Sustainable Development Goals "
- Shriya Shrivastav on " Reforms for Multilateral Institutions " and
- Priyanka Sonar with on " Climate Change And Its Impact "
The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their writing skills and share their perspectives on global issues. The winners of the essay writing competition would go on to participate in level 2 of the competition, the debate competition at the zonal level.
The competition demonstrated the university's commitment to fostering a culture of academic excellence and social responsibility among its students.
