One day educational visit was organized to Kaas Pathar, Satara and Anand Agritourism Center, Borgaon Satara for Third year B. Tech. Biotechnology and M. Tech. Integrated Biotechnology students on 20th October 2022. There were a total of 69 students accompanied by three faculty members Mr. Amol Salagare, Dr. Huda Afreen and Dr. Manjusha Dake.
The study tour was organized as a part of co-curricular activity of Environmental Biotechnology course to study and explore the biodiversity of Kaas Pathar. The Kaas pather is located in high hill of Sahyadri range of Western Ghats near Satara, Maharahstra. It is famous as a valley of flower in Maharashtra. The Kaas plateau is covered with different types of wild flowers in the month of September and October every year. The whole area appears like a colourful carpet. It has been declared as Biodiversity World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
It is a unique place to study flora and fauna exhibiting a great attraction for researchers, students and nature lovers. The students captured various wild flowers in their camera for further studies. Students also identified some wild varieties of flowering plants like Urticularia purpurascens, Commelina benghalensis, Vigna Vexillata, Terda, Senecio bombayensis, Dipcadi ursalea, Eriocaulon tuberiferum and many more.
The next destination was Anand Krishi Paryatan Kendra located in Borgaon, Satara. It is a very well planned agro tourism center with lots of activities like boating, Bullock cart riding, farming, rope climbing etc. It is a great place for leisure and fun.
Overall the visit was very interesting and students studied biodiversity and also enjoyed a lot of fun activities.
