Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Dr. D. Y. Patil Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune had organized a visit to Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL), Pune on FORENSIC AWARENESS PROGRAM 2020, date 23rd January 2020 for all the students of II BHMS (DPU Batch and MUHS Summer 2020 Batch) accompanied by faculty Dr. Vineet V Sinnarkar.

It was a OPEN DAY (22nd and 23rd January 2020) for Regional Forensic Science Laboratory where all medical colleges, Law colleges and Police Department visit the RFSL.

Mr. Kokare (Assistant Director, RFSL) introduced students to various departments. The visit started with General Forensic Department, where the all general cases such as compounds used in explosives, medicines, chemicals with their chemical compositions, Petrol, Kerosene adulteration, the use of inflammable liquids in cases of burns, all types of identification of substances were shown to students. Advanced techniques in Forensic Science like GCMS,HPCL, TLC were shown to students.

After this, student visited Biology department, where the ABO Blood grouping and Semen analysis tests were demonstrated to students.

Next department was DNA department, They also gave examples of cases where DNA fingerprinting in Paternity test, infertility test played a vital role. They interacted with the students and also answered the questions raised by the students. The staff at RFSL explained the practical difficulties in collecting samples and solutions for the same. It was very informative, and faculty explained it in easy way to understand to students.

In the department of Toxicology, gave the basic information with supporting examples for toxicological cases. Faculty explained the tests to carry out of toxicological examinations, preservation of viscera, time to collect viscera and toxicological evidences. It was very good presentation.

The department of Alcohol Prohibition had various techniques to find out the cases of fraud, exemption of Tax or Excise duty or adulteration in alcohol. FSL from the department explained the functioning in very elaborative way. He also explained the ethics of practice and duties of Medical Officer and Forensic Experts. He gave students a brief of duty of a medical officer in cases of Alcohol Consumption.

The last department was Cyber Crime Forensic Department, where the new techniques were used to find out cybercrime and give substantial evidences in front of the Court of Law. The staff explained in a very innovative way with day to day life examples.
