Traffic Rules, Road Safety & Responsible Driving Awareness Campaign
India has one of the worst traffic in the world. Road crashes kill more than 1.25 million people and injure about 50 million people a year, with 90% of such casualties occurring in developing countries. MahaWalkathon is an annual event jointly organized by Public Works Department, MMVD, CASI Global and CSR Diary. In compliance with the initiative of the Maharashtra Government, the students of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Tathawade campus which includes Global Business School & Research Centre and Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute together took an initiative to create awareness on the need to follow traffic rules. On 30th November around 600 students and 80 staff from the campus initiated the Maha Walkathon event at 8 am. Before the walk, students assembled in the ground at 7.30 am, they took a pledge to make the road safe. The pledge was followed by the National anthem. The walk started from Tathawade campus to right to JSPM College, through the subway too left and walked through the service road till Bhumkar chowk. Then it took left and walked through the service road till the campus again covering a distance more than 2 km with placards in hand, with slogans to aware the public about road safety and traffic rules. This campaign was not just to create awareness among the commuters but making them realize the seriousness of traffic violations. The students highlighted the following points in Mahawalkathon. • Use of helmets • Avoid drink and drive • Importance of safety belts • Traffic rules • Prohibited use of phone while driving • Responsible Driving
