International Mother Language Day (IMLD)

  • International Mother Language Day (IMLD) is a worldwide annual observance held on 21 February announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999. The Matribhasha Diwas (International Mother Language Day) is celebrated to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and promote multilingualism Accordingly Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing and INE Pimpri, Pune celebrated Matribhasha Diwas on 21st February 2018 to promote the use of mother tongues . The Programme was organised from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM under the guidance of Dr.(Mrs.) Khurshid Jamadar, Principal, Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing & INE, Mrs. Martha Raut Programme Incharge. All the faculty members and students were present for the event.

    On this occasion, various programmes were organised. Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Khurshid Jamadar inaugurated the celebration and expresssed her views regarding the use of Matribhasha so that the linguistic diversity of our country is preserved. Activities like Essay Competition and Elocution Competitions were conducted. Mr. Janmajay Kokate and Ms. Shefali Athavale students of 1st year Bsc. nursing were the host for the program . Many students participated in the event with lot of enthusiam. Essay Competition and Elocution Competition was conducted in English, Hindi and Marathi. Total 36 students have participated for essay competition and 11 for elocution.

    These competitions were judged by faculties of Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing and INE Pimpri, Pune. And the winner were awarded with certificates and medals by Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Khurshid Jamadar .

    Judges for the competition were:

    •        Mrs Martha Raut – English Essay and Elocution Competition

    •        Ms. Vaishali Jagtap- Marathi Essay Competition

    •        Ms Sucheta Yangad – Marathi Competition

    •        Ms. Gurpreet Bumhra – Hindi Essay and Elocution Competition

    Mrs.Martha Raut (Asst. Professor ) emphasized to encourage learning of languages other than one’s own mother tongue. Ms. Pooja Thorat from first year B.sc Nursing proposed vote of thanks and the program ended at 1:00 PM.
