  • Dr. D. Y. PatilBiotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Tathawade, Pune celebrated GandhiJayanti (150th birth anniversary of our Father of Nation) on Monday 8thOctober, 2018.  All the teachers andstudents attended the event. Our respected director, Dr. J. K. Pal wasaccompanied by Dr. Minal Wani, Dr. G.D. Tondon and Dr. Soumya Basu, Mr. AmolSalagare and Dr. Swapnil Gaikwad for the event.

     

    The programmecommenced with a brief introduction about Mahatma Gandhi by Arush and Anita.Mohandas Karmchand Gandhi popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2ndOctober 1869 in Porbander, Gujarat. The 2nd October is celebrated as GandhiJayanti all over India.  A small talk onLal Bahadur Shastri’s and Mahatma Gandhi’s life and their contribution wasdelivered by Ketki Shukla. She explained how Mahatma Gandhi used truth, peaceand non-violence as his weapons to free India from the British colonial rule.We also remembered Shastri’s slogan: Jai Jawan- Jai Kisan, Gandhi’s NonViolence Civil Disobedience Movement and various sacrifices made by them forour country.

     

    Mahatma Gandhi’sfavorite bhajan: ‘Vaishnav Jan’ was sung first in Hindi by Aashish and Poornaaof third year and then in Marathi by Shreya and Shailaja. This was entailed bya short play highlighting the steps taken by Mahatma Gandhi in introducing the conceptof Basic Education and spreading Equality amongst all. The play was admired byall. It was followed by a beautiful group dance by Gargi Andhare, ManjiriSalodkar, Shruti Sharma and Seethama on a patriotic Bollywood song. Theirperformance was highly appreciated and applauded.

     

    Our Director, Dr. J.K Pal addressed the gathering. He emphasized how the efforts of freedomfighters and such great political leaders made India an independent country andthat laid a strong foundation of today’s India. He also urged to follow thefootsteps of these proficient scholars, work for the benefit and welfare of oursociety. He advised students to introspect and correct themselves in order toachieve goals. Two minutes silence was observed to pay our respect andgratitude to Bapu. Mahatma’s prayer: Raghu Pati Raghav Raja Ram was sung byfirst year students in their melodious voice. National anthem was then sung byaudience in order to pay respect to the nation and all the martyrs whosacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country. This marked the end ofentire event.

     

    The entire programwas organized by Students’ Council of DYPBBI and they were guide by Dr. SoumyaBasu and Mr. Amol Salagare.
