Educational tour to GOA

Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Tathwade, Pune organized three days educational tour to Goa as a part of co-curriculum activity for B. Tech. Biotechnology and M. Tech Biotechnology fourth year students on 19th to 22nd September 2017. The total numbers of students were 56 and they were accompanied by four faculty members, Mr. Amol Salagare, Dr. Viniti Vaidya, Dr. Swapnil Gaikwad and Dr. Sarika Pawar.

Visit to National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa on 20th September. 2017.

As a part of co-curricular activity student visit NIO, on 20th September 2017 at 10 AM. Dr. Sharon welcomed all the students and gave brief introduction about the institute. Dr. Samir Damare, Head, Division of Biological sciences interacted with our students and explore the marine biotechnology research and its scope. He also told about the upcoming opportunities in the institute with respect to dissertation and  summer training programs. The students got a brief knowledge about the research done in NIO and were excited to join future courses and summer training programs in the InstituteIt is one of the 37 constituent laboratories of the CSIR, i.e, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. Its function is focusing on the understanding of special oceanographic features of the Northern Indian Ocean. The students also visited museum set by NIO which depicts its functioning and marine research. They were also shown a documentary called ‘SAGAR’. It gave a geographical perspective to the subject.

Visit to Letcetra Agritech Private Limited, Mapusa, Goa on 22nd September, 2017

Mr. Sandeep Metri owner of the company welcomed all the students and gave brief introduction about the company. He discussed with the students and explains about vertical and hydroponic farming. He also explains how to invest into the creation of modern day farms, which promise good income and solve food problems for the ever-growing populations. Students acquired the knowledge of pesticide-free, fungicide-free, naturally produced tasty food also understood the hydroponic technique to ensure food production which remains easy and accessible for everyone from vertical farming.   

 

Visit to DCI Pharmaceuticals Pvt, Margaon Goa on 22nd September, 2017

As part of the curriculum we had visited DCI Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd Goa on 22nd September 2017.We reached the industry around 3pm. Mr Vaidya who was the General Manger, DCI Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd Goa, welcomed the students. He gave a brief introduction about the company and explained about the working of the company and their products. Then students were divided into 2 groups and one group were taken to the production and packaging unit and the other to the Quality Analysis unit.

Before entering into the production unit students were asked to wear head caps and shoe covers. Student visited different units such as-

1.Primary packaging area where the plastic bottles, ampoules, screw caps, manufacturing labels are unloaded and stored.

2.Raw material unit

3.Sterilization unit

4.Production unit Product filing unit where the filling of ophthalmic drop solution and WFI are filled into ampoules.

5.Quality control unit where the products were analyzed. We saw different instruments such as FTIR, HPLC, UV Spectrophotometer etc.

Overall the visit was very interesting and students got exposure to product processing and analysis and its working at industrial and commercial level
