World Heart Day

Heart health is the heart of all health. The world heart foundation organizes world heart day on September 29 each year to inform people about cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which are the biggest cause of death and disability in the world. This day promote the awareness for preventive measures to reduce the risk of CVDs.

Cardiovascular disease is a group of disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels which supply blood to the lungs, brain, kidneys and other parts of the body. World health organization has a target to reduce premature death from non-communicable diseases by 25% by 2025, of which CVDs make up the largest proportion.

This year, world heart day theme is “SHARE THE POWER”. Small changes, such as eating a healthy diet, getting more exercise and giving up smoking, can make the heart powerful. The world heart foundation on this world heart day is asking everyone to share how they power their heart and inspire millions of people around the world to be heart healthy. We should take action to keep our heart healthy and charged.

 

PROGRAMME CONDUCTED ON 29, SEPTEMBER, 2017

The 1st year M.Sc nursing observed the world heart day on 29, September 2017 at Dr.D.Y.Patil college of nursing and hospital, under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs) Sadhana Adhyapak,  Professor and Mrs. Rupali Patil, Clinical Instructor. The programme has been divided into two sessions:-

1.First session

The first session of the programme was started at 10:30 am and it was held at Dr.D.Y.Patil medical college and hospital, where we, the 1st year M.Sc nursing students, under the expert guidance of Dr.(Mrs) Sadhana Ahyapak and Mrs. Rupali Patil, conducted a health teaching programme. We assembled the family members together in one room, and with the help of AV Aids such as charts, a health teaching was given by Mrs. Surekha Sabale, 1st year M.Sc nursing student, regarding world heart day, its theme, causes of CVDs, its management, and most importantly, the preventive measures of cardiovascular diseases.

 After the health teaching, an interactive session was held, where the family members who attended the session, were encouraged to ask any queries related to the programme, and answers were being provided to the best of our abilities.

The session was concluded at 12:00 pm and refreshments were

being provided.        

2.Second session:-

The second session was conducted at the fifth-floor seminar hall, Dr.D.Y.Patil college of nursing, Pimpri, Pune.

The programme started at 2 pm and the guest lecturer is Dr. Mayura Deshmukh, Associate professor, Dr.D.Y.Patil college of physiotherapy. The programme was being attended by all the faculties of nursing department as well as the 1st year MSc nursing students.

The introduction of the programme was given by Ms. Madhuri Kotkar, 1st-year M.Sc nursing students, followed by the felicitation of the guest. The lecture was given by Dr. Mayura Deshmukh, where she shared some basic facts related to the theme of the programme and preventive measures of CVDS such as having a healthy diet, giving up smoking, get active, and regular health check-up.

 The programme ended at 3 pm, and the vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Elizabeth David, 1st Year M.Sc nursing student.

The overall session conducted was an informative one, and the programme was truly successful.

 On behalf of all the faculties and students of the nursing department, we are thankful to Dr. (Mrs) Khurshid S. Jamaldar, principal of Dr.D.Y.Patil college of nursing, for giving us this opportunity to conduct this programme. We also express our gratitude to Dr.(Mrs) Sadhana Adhyapak, for guiding us throughout the programme.
