A  Faculty Development Programme (FDP) was organized by GBSRC from 5th June 2017 to 9th June 2017, inaugurated at the hands of chief guest Dr. P.N.Razdan, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. D.Y.Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. Dr. P.N. Razdan opened the session with his inaugural address emphasizing the role of FDP in the career progression of the faculty members. He highlighted the way such sessions would help to enhance the quality of classroom teaching. He also urged the faculty members to make the best use of the sessions and ensure integrated learning experience. The faculty members of Global Business School & Research Centre, Dr.D. Y. Patil Institute of Management & Research and Management Department of Dr.D.Y.Patil Institute of Engineering & Technology participated in the Programme.

Dr. Kamal Kishore Jain from IIM, Indore was the first speaker on 5th June 2017 who took a session on ‘Innovative Teaching Pedagogy’. He showed numerous ways to open any lecture or session. Dr. Kishore discussed the importance ice-breaking activity at the beginning of any long session in creating a bond between the students.  He revealed the usage of veto cards and blending movie clips with the concept teaching. Also seeking the participation of students through magazine and newspaper cut-outs were discussed.

On 6th June 2017 Mr. Ketan Gandhi, Management Consultant and Alumni of IIM Ahmedabad conducted a session on ‘Case Teaching and Case Writing’. This session was conducted in a perfect simulation of a class room environment where participants discussed their own cases. Many participants had the first-hand experience of writing a live case which made them more confident. He showed how to use own cases for effective class room teaching.

The key to transform a boring session to an interesting one is by integrating the faculty’s learning technique with the teaching skills. This has been aptly demonstrated by Prof. Gopal Mahapatra from IIM Indore on the session ‘Dealing with student behavior’ and ‘Effective Class Handling’ on 7th June 2017. He also administered a MBTI test which gave the participants a sneak into their individual personality traits. Prof. Mahapatra stressed the importance of a faculty to wear the 3 hats of Mentor, Facilitator, and Coach.

Course Curriculum design is another challenge for the faculties. To address this area Prof. Satyasiba Das from IIM Raipur was there on 8th June 2017, who dealt at length with the history and psychology of curriculum designing. He focused on Teaching Perspectives Inventory, Heuristic Process, Diagnostic Process, Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Pedagogies of Engagement.

Dr. Kavita from Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research conducted a session on ‘Questionnaire Design’ and ‘Use of Statistical Tools’  on 9th June 2017.The session demonstrated how research should be done passionately in a fun loving way. She underlined the 8 fold steps in the research process and how to design a good questionnaire. Dr. Kavita also gave the participants hands on experience in SPSS platform and taught data analysis in excel.

The Programme concluded with expressing the thankfulness to the resource persons and gratitude to the authority by Dr.L.K.Tripathy, Director, GBSRC. In the valedictory session participating faculty members shared the fact that the FDP is of immense help to them by way of providing guidance on various aspects of teaching and learning.
