Physiotherapy Camp and Industrial Visit at Jayashree Polymers Pvt. Ltd., Chinchwad

Community Physiotherapy Department of Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Physiotherapy, Pune had organized Physiotherapy Camp and Industrial visit at Jayashree Polymers Pvt. Ltd. Chinchwad which was carried out from 18th  August 2017 to 22nd August 2017. The main objective behind the camp was to assess employees of the company for general fitness and any specific musculoskeletal problems and also to make students aware of various activities related to health fitness & ergonomics that are carried out in industry.

The Jayashree Polymers Pvt. Ltd. Chinchwad group trace its roots back to 1984 when it began operations as rubber manufacturing company. It has established itself as one of leading automotive rubber components supplier in the country. They serve their products to automotive companies like TATA, Videocon, whirlpool, Panasonic, Hero Honda, Mahindra, JCB, Suzuki etc..etc…

Dr. Manisha Rathi & Dr. Supriya Gowardhan along with 10 Post graduate students and interns attended for camp on 18th August 2017. After reaching the company, Mr.Sunil Dhamak (EHS, HR & Admin) welcomed the whole team at the conference hall and orientation of company was given by the head of the Production Department about history & how the company is working. Mrs. Bhakti Patnekar (AGM- HR & Admin.) felicitated Dr. Manisha Rathi and Team. Mr.Shanadeo Kale (Unit head -HR & Admin) helped the team to carry out camp procedure smoothly with proper arrangement for assessment of employees. Employees were was first assessed with B.P, Height, Weight, BMI, Hip circumference, Waist circumference, % of body fat, % of body water, muscle mass, BMR, Visceral fat, Bone mass, Body metabolic age & latter any other musculoskeletal complaint. According to their musculoskeletal complaints & results of the assessment, they were treated with ergonomic advice & counseling which was done by staff.  A total number of employees assessed and treated was 92.

Next day i.e. on 19th August 2017,  till lunch break team was assessing the remaining employees of the same unit and after lunch break team went to the other unit of the company located in Chakan.  The team assessed all the employees of the unit in a similar way. A total number of subjects assessed & treated was 70.

On 3rd & 4th day of camp, ( on 21st and 22nd August 2017) team went to unit-III of the company, where 10 Post graduate students and interns along with staff in charges Dr. Reema Joshi & Dr. Preeti Lendghar attended the camp. On 3rd day 117 subjects were assessed & treated whereas on  4th day 80 subjects were assessed & treated.

Total 360 employees of the company were evaluated in this Physiotherapy Comp. Maximum participants were sedentary workers. The employees from departments like HR, Admin, Technical, Finishing, Moulding, Accounts, Sales, Finance, Design, IT, Lab, Production attended the camp. After analysis of all the assessment it was found that 10% subjects complained about cervical pain, 18% low back pain, 10% knee pain, 55% had higher BMI,13% were under weight & 30% had no complaints & normal BMI.

It was a great experience at industrial camp.  They also took the team for on site visit. The there team observed how workers work at production unit, posture in which they work, the temperature under which they have to work, ergonomics they follow, exposure to hazards, precautions they take & protective devices they use.

In the end, Mrs. Bhakti and Mr. Sunil gave excellent feedback & satisfaction about the Physiotherapy Camp & suggested to conduct a further camp for main production line workers.
