Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration

Menstrual hygiene day is an annual awareness day on 28th May, that aims to raise the awareness about the importance of good menstrual hygiene management for women and adolescent girl worldwide. It was initiated by a German based NGO “WASH United” in 2014. May 28th was chosen for its symbolism since May is the 5th month of the year and most women average 5days every month and their cycle is approximately 28 day.

As per “AYUSH” circular, Dr. DY Patil CON has decided to conduct an awareness programme on menstrual hygiene for students and staffs.


An awareness programme has been conducted at Dr. D Y Patil CON in collaboration with Dr.D Y Patil Ayurvedic college on 3rd June 2017.

Dr. Jayashree Patil ( HOD- Streerog-Prasutitantra department)has delivered a lecture on menstrual hygiene. The session was started at 1.30 pm, with an introduction by Mrs.Martha Raut(Asst.professor OBG department). The session started with an introduction about the menstrual day celebration. The session covered health issues related to menstrual hygine, premenstrual syndrome, diet and exercise during menstruation, myths and health management techniques in Ayurveda during menstruation. After the lecture, there was an interactive session for students and staff for clearing their doubts.

The programme was ended with vote of thanks by Mrs. Martha Raut.


The session on menstrual hygiene was very much informative for students and staffs. The audience could understand the science behind menstrual cycle, the importance of menstrual hygiene, diet and exercise during menstruation, and home management for menstruation related health problems. The awareness programme arranged by Dr.DY Patil CON could fulfill the intention of celebrating menstrual hygiene day.
