A one-day industrial visit was organized by Nira Valley Grapes Wines Pvt Ltd. Baramati on 15th Feb 2017 for Third year B. Tech. Biotechnology students as a part of the extra-curricular activity. The students left the institute at 8:00 AM and reached the winery at around 11:30 AM.
Mrs. Pratima Chavan, the Production Manager, Nira Valley Wine Pvt. Ltd. welcomed the students. She gave a brief introduction about the company and also explained the entire process of wine production at the industrial level. She explained each step of wine making starting from grape crushing to the ageing of wine. Her talk was very informative and technical, and students received comprehensive knowledge about the wine industry. She also informed us about industry set up and other commercial and technical details.
Then students were divided into two groups and taken for a visit to the production plant. Mrs. Dade, Production Officer, took the student to the actual fermentation plant. They showed various machinery such as grapes crusher and destemmer, storage tank and fermenter of different sizes, ageing tank, bottling, and labeling unit. They explained the unit operation of each and every step of wine production. The students were amazed upon seeing the red and white wine. The visit was followed by lunch.
Overall the industrial visit was very interesting and students got direct exposure to wine processing and its working at industrial and commercial level.
