THEME OF WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY:

“EVERY DAY IS PATIENT SAFETY DAY”

Time:-10.30am to 12:30pm

World Patient Safety day was celebrated on 9th of December to raise awareness about the safety of the patient. Patient safety is a global public health concern and is a fundamental principle of health care. The main aim of this day is to raise awareness about patient safety issues in all parts of the world. According to WHO, estimates show that in developed countries as many as 1 in 10 patients are harmed while receiving hospital care. The harm can be caused by a range of errors or adverse events.

The students of the Second year General Nursing and faculty from Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing observed ‘WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY  under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Khurshid Jamadar, Principal Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing.  Mrs. Martha Raut Asst. Professor, Ms.Surekha Suryawanshi, Mrs.Archana Pardeshi, Clinical Instructor Dr.D.Y.Patil College of Nursing.

The Theme for the world patient safety day was ““EVERY DAY IS PATIENT  SAFETY DAY” ” Based on which various colorful Charts and Posters were prepared to educate the staff nurses about patient safety issues and proper patient safety, Universal Precautions etc. It was inaugurated by Matron Ms. Vimal Maske. And also shown video of prevention of fall injuries and all were appreciate. 

The students explained to health care persons regarding patient safety issues and shown video on various patient safety issues.


Diagnostic Errors:  such as wrong, missed or unintentionally delayed diagnosis.

Health Care-Acquired Infections: These are the errors which occur during patient’s hospitalization.

Medication Errors- when a patient gets the wrong medication, or when he or she receives the right medication but in the wrong dosage.

Readmissions: A readmission is when a patient needs to return to the hospital less than 30 days after being discharged.

Wrong-Site Surgery: Wrong-site surgery means an operation done on the wrong part of the body or on the wrong person.

Communication: Proper communication between the hospital workers as well as between the patient and doctor.

The exhibition started at 10.30 Am. All staff nurses and ward in charges and floor supervisor visited the exhibition and gained adequate information about “WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY” The exhibition ended at 12:30 Pm.
